Hackers recently targeted Naver, Korea's largest Internet portal, in a
never-before-seen kind of attack. Choi Whee-young, CEO of Naver's parent
NHN, said in a meeting with reporters Thursday that Naver users recently
had trouble accessing the portal's cafes because it had to temporarily
block access after detecting new kinds of hacker attacks.
"Fortunately we suffered no damage and no information leak," Choi said.
"The Korea Information Security Agency and the National Police Agency's
Cyber Terror Response Center are now investigating the incident. But
because the type of attack was totally unheard of, some companies that
are not equipped with anti-hacking systems could be helpless if they are
attacked."
Earlier Naver posted a notice saying that some of its cafes had been
inaccessible at a certain time last Wednesday and Thursday. It
apologized for the inconvenience but did not mention the exact cause of
the problem.
