Phone companies lack incentive to patch security holes.
By Kevin Poulsen October 20, 1999
Telephone company negligence has allowed banks to be robbed, credit
reports to be raided, and communities to be stripped of dial tones. What
are you going to do, switch to a competitor?

response is invariably something like, "Oh, you were getting free phone
calls?" The reality is, the telephone network underlies virtually every
other wide-area network.
