16Nov98 RUSSIA: RUSSIAN SECURITY SERVICE CREATES ANTI-HACKER UNIT.

An agency for computer and information security has been established at
Russia's Federal Security Service. It will be responsible for organization
and implementation of measures to detect and prevent computer-related
crimes. The first deputy director of the Federal Security Service, Viktor
Cherkesov, said this at the opening of an international congress on
telecommunications and national security in St Petersburg on Monday [16th
November]. He pointed out that this was the first time information
security had been ranked as equally important as political, defence and
economic security in Russia's national security strategy.
