Network Risk Analysis Software

DENVER, CO.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1998--
L-3 Network Security's Expert (TM) 3.0 Identifies
Critical Computer Vulnerabilities and Provides Quantified Risk
Reports
L-3 Network Security, a subsidiary of New York-based L-3 Communications
(NYSE:LLL), announced today the release of its third generation network
security software, Expert (TM) 3.0. Expert automates the sophisticated
network risk analysis process first developed for the U.S. Air Force and
is now used by leading corporations, consulting firms, and government
agencies.
Expert was formerly marketed under the name Trident Information Protection
Toolbox. In August, L-3 Communications acquired the Toolbox technology and
development team from Trident Data Systems and formed L-3 Network Security
to develop and market the technology to a broad range of customers
worldwide.
Expert 3.0 adds significant functionality to earlier versions, including
faster network mapping, improved modem discovery, user account
administration, and new executive summary reports.
"Expert 3.0 is the only software product commercially available that
supports true information risk management," said Cress Carter, president
of L-3 Network Security. "The software is based on technology that was
originally developed to analyze the risk levels of sensitive military and
intelligence networks. The software is now used by the top consulting
firms as well as major corporations and government agencies in the U.S.
and Europe."
Expert first automatically maps a user's network, compiling a database of
all systems, applications, and services -- including unauthorized modems.
Expert then provides users with comprehensive vulnerability reports.
Expert's databases contain virtually all publicly known computer
vulnerabilities, researched and verified by L-3's full-time security team.
Expert also takes into account the character of the information that is at
risk, analyzes the likelihood of internal and external threats, and
produces quantified risk measures as well as optimal safeguard reports.
"From e-commerce transactions to production control systems, digital
information is at the heart of all organizations," said Mr. Carter. "Any
action that compromises the confidentiality, availability, or integrity of
that information can seriously disrupt an organization's critical
operations. Expert 3.0 allows network administrators and business managers
to measure and manage information risk."
Expert 3.0 supports network risk assessment guidelines such as British
Standard 7799 and the U.S. General Accounting Office information security
Best Practices. Such guidelines were established to provide organizations
with a sound basis for formulating information security policy.
L-3 Network Security is headquartered in Denver, Colorado and has offices
in San Antonio, Washington, D.C., and London. The company offers the
Expert (TM) line of security analysis software as well as network security
consulting and training. The company is formally known as L-3
