ROSTOV-ON-DON, October 29 (Itar-Tass) - A computer bank-hacker has been
arrested in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, Prime Tass news
agency quoted the Rostsberbank savings bank's press service as saying on
Thursday.
This has been the first attempt in Rostov Region to rob a bank by
penetrating its computer network, and it failed.
The hacker, who proved to be a Rostsberbank staffer, hacked its network
on October 6 and ordered opening a non-cash account for a certain sum.
He might have inflicted damage worth several hundreds of thousands of
roubles (tens of thousands of dollars), but the attempt failed as bank
experts noticed the hacker's program at once and blocked his account.
The bank also ordered its branches to block all possible operations on
that account.
The regional police department is in looking into the case.
