In particular, you might want to look into the Economic Espionage Act of
1996. Among other things, the penalties were turbo-charged: Fines up to
$10 million and 15 years in prison if the benefactor of the purloined
information is foreign, $5 million and 10 years in prison if the
benefactor is domestic. See U.S.C. 18 at:
