KEENE, N.H. (AP) - Keene State College officials are trying to learn
how someone could retrieve names and Social Security numbers from the
   college's computer network.

The names and numbers were found on a computer disk left outside the
school newspaper, The Equinox. It includes current students and
   graduates.

College spokeswoman Retha Lindsey Fielding says it appears the hacker
wasn't being malicious, just concerned the information could be
accessed. Fielding says opening student records is illegal.

A computer safety and security team is studying how to improve the
   system's security.

Last month, a computer system flaw at the University of New Hampshire
in Durham left Social Security numbers of all students and some
   faculty unprotected.

Jerry Olson, assistant vice president for computing and information
services at UNH said, similar issues have cropped up at other
   colleges.
