Security Dynamics strikes again

Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. announced today it will spend $32.5
million to acquire a New York-based network intrusion detection vendor
called, aptly enough, Intrusion Detection Inc.

Officials with the Bedford, Mass., company said the deal, involving
784,000 shares of Security Dynamics stock, will allow them to fill out
their security suite with two IDI (Initial Domain Identifier)
products--Kane Security Analyst and Kane Security Monitor.

The deal is expected to close today.

Since acquiring cryptography specialist RSA Data Security Inc. about two
years ago, Security Dynamics has carefully built its product portfolio
through low-profile acquisitions. At the annual RSA Conference in San
Francisco in January, Security Dynamics began to roll out a suite of
integrated security products that largely stem from those acquisitions.

The IDI products, which focus on analysis of network security flaws and
real-time detection of attacks on a network, fill one of the two major
holes in Security Dynamics' lineup. The other is firewalls, although the
company's products are integrated with several enterprise-scale firewall
applications from other vendors.
