In Australias harshest sentence against a computer hacker , a District
Court judge yesterday jailed Skeeve Stevens , 27, to a minium term of 3 years.

long story hightlights follow

April 17 1995 Skeeve hacked into AUSnets computer system , from his home,
then distributed 1225 CC details onto the internet. He also hacked AUSnet's
home page leaving the message "So dont be surprised if all you cards have
millions of s---- on them.AUSnet is a disgusting network, and should be
shut down and sued by all their users, hehe."

Shortly after he went to the SMH & hacked into the AUSnet system again and
demonstrated a similar hack using a CC generator to make an account. The
SMH waited to check the results of his hack , once confimed they published
the story.

The hack immediately attracted masive media attention, and the media turned
to skeeve (as an internet consultant) to comment on the crime.During the
next few days skeeve appeared on TV news , current affairs programs, radio
stations and in various newspapers.

It took the feds 2 days to track down the phone calls made from skeeves
home and the SMH offices.Skeeve asked a mate to switch off the power to his
house , shutting down his home PC and making it unable to reboot without a
password. The Aus Fed Police raided his home but were unable to crack the
password so they sent it to the US to have it cracked open.By the time the
HD was returned to Australia (several months) the AFP had built a massive
case against skeeve

500 of the CC's were cancelled by the banks and Westpac refunded about
$300,000 to users cards.

AUSnet folded in March 1995
