Computer Peripheral Systems Basic Mini Firewall

Mini Firewalls:
Bang for the buck is a constant theme here, and you
can't do much better on that front than the Basic
Mini Firewall ($85 list), from Computer Peripheral
Systems (reviewed in "No-Frills Firewalls," PC
Magazine, Network Edition, October 7, 1997). If you
have a dial-up Internet connection at the desktop an
are concerned about security breaches, this product
is an essential toolkit component.
The Basic Mini Firewall is tiny enough to slip into
your pocket, and it connects to your phone line and
your 10Base-T LAN. The product works by breaking you
connection to the LAN when you connect to the
Internet via your modem. This way, your LAN is
off-limits. Although the unit certainly isn't
flexible (and being off the LAN can sometimes be
inconvenient), you won't have any doubts about
whether your internal data is endangered by your
Internet connection.
