Despite production days and the threat of its star going to jail, the
upcoming season of 24 is looking like a winner.
A trailer of the Emmy Award-winning drama's seventh season was
officially unveiled in New York City, starting with a message from
series star Keifer Sutherland that thanks 24's fans and promises that
season seven "[pulls] out all the stops".
The trailer opens in Washington DC, with Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland)
on trial for torturing terrorism suspects. He's quickly whisked away by
the FBI, who want his help quashing a cyber-terrorism threat led by a
man Jack thought was dead: Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard).
Although the torture storylines of previous seasons caused a storm of
controversy, a government agent (Annie Wersching) later advises Jack to
do "whatever it takes" to get information out of a terrorism suspect.
Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and Bill Buchanan (James Morrison)
also appear briefly in the trailer, though fans will have to wait until
the US season premiere on January 13 to find out how they fit into the
new season.
24's producers overhauled the series after season six was poorly
received by critics and audiences. More bad luck befell the show when
Sutherland was arrested for drink-driving in late September, potentially
halting production on season seven.
